As a part of the government's bid push towards cashless economy, Maharashtra Public Works Department today said all contractors working for it should henceforth make payments online, including those to the labourers. The contractors will have to submit a report to the PWD about the mode of payment with Aadhaar number of every labourer, the department said. As per a Government Resolution issued today, if a labourer, engaged by a contractor, does not have Aadhaar card, the contractor should seek help from local PWD officials and district collectors.
