Xiaomi expects to double the number of smartphones it sells in India in 2017, backed by demand for its latest Redmi Note 4, which has dethroned a Samsung phone as the top selling device in the country in the March quarter, the Chinese company’s India head said.

Having sold 4 million smartphones in the first quarter and with expectations of selling around 8 million units just from the Redmi 4 series this year, the company expects to easily surpass the units it sold last year. While Xiaomi didn’t specify its 2016 sales, Counterpoint Research puts it at 7.2 million.
