Equity benchmarks end the day on a high note. The Nifty closed above 9000-mark for the first time ever. At close, the Sensex was up 496.4 points at 29442.63, while the Nifty was up 140.25 points at 9074.80. The market breadth, however, was slightly narrow with 1,684 shares having advanced, 1,167 shares having declined, while 198 shares remained unchanged.
