Asia opens Higher; Nikkei Rises 0.8%, Kospi Up 0.7%

Asia markets opened higher on Friday, following another record close in US stocks, and as investors braced for a data deluge from China. Australia's ASX 200 was up 0.41 percent, boosted by advances in the heavily-weighted financials sub-index, as well as in the energy and material sub-indexes.

In South Korea, the Kospi index was up 0.54 percent in early trade. Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 added 0.8 percent while the Topix was higher by 0.68 percent.

"The Asian session is set to be dominated by the big Chinese release of gross domestic product (GDP), industrial production, retail sales and fixed asset investment," said Angus Nicholson, a market analyst at brokerage IG.
