After Twitter, Facebook in the Fray for IPL Digital Media Rights
Facebook is the latest company to join the fray for the digital media rights for Indian Premier League after Amazon and Twitter. The social media site has purchased tender documents worth USD 10,000 for the rights of the Twenty20 extravaganza, Mint reported on Tuesday. Cricket regulator Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will award the rights for television and digital media starting 2018 for a period of 10 years and five years, respectively.
The bidding closes on October 25 and the winners will be declared the same day. Currently, Star India arm Novi Digital Entertainment holds the rights for Internet and mobile rights for IPL till 2017. In 2009, Sony paid USD 1.63 billion for IPL’s television broadcasting rights, the report said.
