Vedanta jumps 6% after NGT sets aside TN order of closure of Sterlite plant in Tuticorin

Vedanta’s shares rose over 6 percent in the morning trade as investors cheered a green court’s order on its smelter unit in Tuticorin.

The stock touched an intraday high of Rs 214.25 and an intraday low of Rs 209.90.

The National Green Tribunal Saturday set aside the Tamil Nadu government order for closure of Vedanta's sterlite copper plant at Tuticorin, which was at the centre of massive protests over alleged pollution, saying it was "non-sustainable" and "unjustified".

The Tamil Nadu government, meanwhile, said it would challenge in the Supreme Court the NGT order setting aside the closure of the Vedanta's Sterlite Copper plant in Tuticorin in the wake of protests by locals.

At 09:25 hrs Vedanta was quoting at Rs 210.25, up Rs 9.05, or 4.50 percent.
