The pain will continue well into the March quarter of current fiscal, says Sanger. OPEC in its meeting yesterday, agreed to cut output after 8 years. This will lead to a long term positive for crude price. It may be positive for oil producing nations like Russia, but will be a negative for importers like India and China. Crude price rise and other global cues may hamper RBI's ability to cut rates, he says. He also does not see the Indian market rally due to the global pressures. US market is liking the pro US growth story under Trump administration.

US traders see taxes being cut. They also expect less regulatory burden due to Donald Trump winning the US elections, which they view as a huge positive for the market. He sees the Indian IT sector doing very well under Trump's presidency. Despite the uncertainty around H1B visas, the IT companies stand to gain.

Government has cut short the deadline of using old Rs 500 notes at petrol pumps and for buying airline tickets at airports till December 2 instead of December 15 announced earlier. With effect from December 3, 2016, old Rs 500 notes cannot be used for purchase of petrol, diesel and gas at the stations operating under authorization of public sector oil marketing companies and for buying airline tickets at airport counters, a government notification said. While junking old 500 and 1,000 rupee notes on November 8, the government had allowed their use for utility bill payments for 72 hours.

This deadline was extended twice and when the last one was to expire on November 24, it amended it to state that only the old 500 rupee notes could be used for payment of utility bills like electricity and water, school fees, pre-paid mobile top-up, fuel purchase and airline ticket booking. While the old note will continue to be accepted for the other utility bill payments as well as at railway ticketing counters and counters of government or public sector undertaking buses for purchase of bus tickets till December 15, it will be discontinued for purchase of fuel and airline tickets at airport counters.

The US economy continues to expand nationwide with only slight upward price pressures despite reports of tightening labour markets and higher wages, the Federal Reserve's Beige Book survey said today. All but two of the 12 Fed districts reported at least a slight increase in economic activity, with only New York seeing no expansion at all, and six reporting "moderate" growth and four describing it as "modest." But the strong dollar is weighing on manufacturing in some districts.

The report, which collects views of economists, business contacts and others in the 12 Federal Reserve districts in preparation for the monetary policy meeting next month, noted improved retail sales and home construction in most regions.
