Nifty can extend fall towards 11,450-11,500; here's why Exide & India Cements are top sell ideas

At the start of the week, Nifty plunged 1.25 percent, breaking previous three week low of 11,769.

Nifty has confirmed lower bottom preceded by lower top on the daily charts. The next support zone for the Nifty is seen at 11,450-11,500. Nifty has breached 20 days EMA and now is on the verge of violating 50 days EMA support placed at 11,655.

On May 20, 2019, when exit polls were announced for the Lok Sabha elections, Nifty opened with a huge gap of 245 points between 11,426 and 11,591. This gap can act as a short term support for the Nifty.

Bank Nifty has breached crucial double bottom support of 31,600, which could result in to further selling in the index. Support for the Bank Nifty spot is seen in the range of 29,700-29,900.

Indicators and oscillators like MACD and RSI have turned bearish on the daily charts, strengthening the chance of markets going down from here. Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices lost their shine and most of the stock reached their two months low.

Currently, the index hides more than it reveals. Advance decline ratio of the BSE stocks has been negative for the last 13 sessions. This indicates that the breadth of the market is extremely weak. The performance gap between largecap and smallcap has widened again.

From the derivative side, Maximum OI is seen in Nifty 11,500 Put, indicating strong support going forward. As far as resistance is concerned, it has shifted downwards to 11,800. Short term view on market would remain bearish unless Nifty closes above 11,800 resistance.

Considering the technical evidence, we believe that Nifty is in a short term downtrend and can extend the fall towards 11,450-11,500 zone. One should remain bearish in Nifty with the stop loss of 11,800 on closing basis.

Here are the top stock trading ideas which can give good returns:

Exide Industries: Sell | Target: Rs 187 | Stop loss: Rs 212 | Return: 7 percent

The stock has been forming lower tops and lower bottoms on the daily charts. It is trading below all important moving averages. Auto sector has also been passing from the bearish phase. It has closed below crucial support of Rs 203 and has closed at the lowest level since February 2018.

Considering the technical evidence discussed above, we recommend selling the stock at current market price, for the target of Rs 188, keeping a stop loss at Rs 212 on closing basis.

India Cements: Sell | Target: Rs 86 | Stop loss: Rs 98 | Return: 8 percent

The stock price has broken down from the bearish “Flag” pattern on the daily charts. It has violated the crucial support of its 200 DMA. Cement sector has remained under pressure in the month of June. Upward sloping trend line has also been breached on the daily charts.

Considering the technical evidence, we recommend selling the stock at current market price, for the target of Rs 86, keeping a stop loss at Rs 98 on closing basis.

Piramal Enterprises: Sell | Target: Rs 1850 | Stop loss: Rs 2126 | Return: 8 percent

The stock price has violated the multiple bottom support placed at around 2020 levels. Bearish head and shoulder pattern is seen on the daily charts. Stock is trading below all important moving averages. Lower tops and lower bottoms formation is there on the short to medium term charts.

Considering the technical evidence, we recommend selling the stock at the current market price for the target of Rs 1850, keeping stop loss at Rs 2126 on closing basis.

Soybean prices are expected to trade sideways today: Angel Commodities

NCDEX Jul Soybean fell 1.5% on Monday on profit booking as there are chances of higher planting this season but monsoon rains will be very crucial. As per farm ministry, acreage under soybean was 37,000 ha so far, lower than 75,000 ha from a year ago. As per latest SOPA press release, soybean arrivals for the Oct-May period pegged at 84.75 lt, up by 19.4% on year. Until April, country crushed about 67.8 lt of soybean compared to 60.5 lt last year. In the 3rd advance estimates, government increased production forecast of soybean to 137.43 lt (Vs 109.33 last year). As per SEA, country export only export 40,000 tonnes of soy meal in May down 41.4% y/y. Moreover, for Apr-May period, India shipped out about 58,470 tonnes of soybean meal down 59% compared to last year. USDA in its monthly report forecast output at 109 lt in 2019/20, down 5% compared to last year. Lower crude soybean oil stocks at port may support soybean but lowering of tariff on edible oils and lower soyoil in international market pressurize soybean. CBOT Soybean surged to two-month high on forecasts for wet conditions in the U.S. Midwest which will further slow planting progress.

Outlook

Soybean futures expected to trade sideways due to reports of higher acreage this season. Moreover, increase edible oil imports will put extra pressure on Oilseeds as the sowing season approaching.

Rupee opens higher at 69.83 per dollar

The Indian rupee opened higher at 69.83 per dollar on Tuesday versus previous close 69.90.

On June 17 local currency fell 11 paise to end at 69.91 against US dollar on the back of sell-off in domestic equity market amid concerns over trade worries.

Rupee came under pressure but consolidated in narrow range ahead of the important major central bank policy statements that will be released later this week. Most Asian currencies are consolidating ahead of the important FOMC policy statement and that could provide a trigger to major crosses as well as to the rupee, said Motilal Oswal.

Expectation is that the central bank could remain dovish and any hints towards rate cut by the Fed could put the greenback under pressure.

Today, USDINR pair is expected to quote in the range of 69.40 and 70.05-70.20, it added.

Rupee opens flat at 69.80 per dollar

The Indian rupee opened flat at 69.80 per dollar on Monday versus Friday's close 69.80.

On June 14 the domestic currency slipped 30 paise to end at 69.80 against US dollar on strengthening greenback and increasing crude oil prices kept the investors cautious.

Rupee continued to consolidate in narrow range for the whole week but today in the Asian session came under pressure following broad based strength in the dollar. This week, on the domestic front, no major economic numbers are expected to release and that could keep the volatility low for the currency. Today, USD-INR pair is expected to quote in the range of 69.40 and 70.05-70.20, said Motilal Oswal.

Ambuja, Shree Cement, ACC shares fall 1-2% after Nomura downgrade

Cement majors Ambuja Cements, ACC and Shree Cement fell 2 percent, 0.9 percent and 0.87 percent, respectively, intraday on June 13 after Japanese brokerage firm Nomura downgraded them to neutral from buy.

Nomura cut the target price for Ambuja Cements to 240 from Rs 295 as it sees may see the lowest volume/earnings growth among largecap peers.

"Company appears to be least geared for an upcycle. We expect a modest 4.2 percent volume CAGR over the next two years," Nomura said, adding in next two years, the company may see standalone earnings at 12 percent CAGR against 27 percent for its peer ACC.

In case of Shree Cement, the brokerage raised price target to Rs 21,500 from Rs 18,000 earlier as earnings outlook look good though valuations are becoming expensive.

Nomura believes cement is in an upcycle, but upside is limited. We expect two-year EPS CAGR of 40 percent, it said.

The brokerage also raised price target for ACC to Rs 1,750 from Rs 1,700 earlier.

"We see 27 percent earnings CAGR over two years, but may be at risk if price increase is lower. With capacity utilisations at 90 percent, cycle upside benefits seem limited," it said.

At 1018 hours IST, Shree Cements was down 0.40 percent at Rs 20,465, ACC down 0.49 percent at Rs 1,571.60 and Ambuja Cements fell 1.25 percent at Rs 217.95 on the BSE.

Historical data for last 11 yrs suggests June belongs to bulls; will it be different in 2019?

Sensex and Nifty started the sixth month of the calendar year breaking records. Both benchmark indices created new record highs on the very first trading session in June—Sensex hitting 40,312.07 while Nifty climbing to 12,103.05 intraday on June 3.

Historically, bulls have controlled the D-Street in the last six out of eleven years, data from AceEquity showed.

Of those six instances, Sensex jumped 9 percent in June 2011, 6 percent in June 2009 and nearly 3 percent in June 2013—three of the biggest gains in June.

On the other hand, bears have dominated the market on five instances in June. Four of those instances are—2008 (Sensex down 2 percent), 2012 (Sensex down 1.09 percent) and 2016 and 2017 (Sensex down 0.7 percent each).

Benchmark indices have rallied about 10 percent so far in 2019. They have registered most of the gains in May post Lok Sabha election results as a stable government at the Center raised hopes of continuity of reforms.

Apart from political stability, fall in crude oil prices, a possible rate cut from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and expectation of near-normal monsoon fuelled the rally.

“Firstly, the investors would keep a close watch on the upcoming RBI monetary policy scheduled on June 6. After a thumping victory by the NDA government, the hopes amongst participants have definitely increased for a rate cut in the upcoming policy meeting,” Jayant Manglik, President, Retail Distribution, Religare Broking Ltd told Moneycontrol.

“Further, the progress of monsoon would also be crucial for the markets as any major deficit would hurt the already muted consumption demand in the Indian economy. Additionally, the focus would shift back to global cues, which has been volatile due to US-China trade war and political uncertainty in the UK,” he said.

Although history suggests bulls have an upper hand but the verdict from experts remains fairly mixed. Given the market is trading near record highs, there is a possibility of some profit booking at higher levels.

“June might not turn out to be as hot and fiery as the mood is now and if looked at the current scenario in depth, fresh highs are not supported by enough fire. The volumes are average, FIIs and DIIs have been net neutral amongst themselves and on top of that there are no significant fresh inflows from the domestic investors; SIP inflows are nonetheless stable,” Umesh Mehta, Head of Research at SAMCO Securities, told Moneycontrol.

“These are no conditions for a genuine breakout and therefore this could turn out to be a mirage. Traders might end up buying at the intermittent top and therefore it is time to remain cautious,” he said.

Nifty has already rallied above 12,100 in June but any meaningful upside from current levels remains fairly capped.

“Rollovers towards June series do suggest that we may be entering a short term trending period. It is a matter of time that we may see some trend developing. 11,800-12,200 is seen as a range for now on the basis of derivatives data,” Mustafa Nadeem, CEO at Epic Research, told Moneycontrol.

“The Nifty, in June, could oscillate in the range of 11,800-12,200 on the upside. Above 12,200, we may see further trend continuation but we should be a bit conservative here,” he said.

Institutional activity:

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have been net buyers in June in seven out of the last 10 years, according to data from AceEquity.

In the rest of the instances, they pulled out more than Rs 9,000 crore in 2013, Rs 5,000 crore in 2015 and around Rs 2,000 crore just last year.

DIIs were also mostly net buyers in June in seven out of the last 10 years. They poured in more than Rs 10,000 crore in 2015, Rs 9199 crore in 2017 and Rs 6000 crore just last year.

Soybean prices to trade sideways to lower: Angel Commodities

NCDEX Jun Soybean plunge about 1.78% on Monday on profit booking by the market participants to close at 3,632 rupees per 100 kg. In the 3rd advance estimates, government increased production forecast of soybean to 137.43 lt (Vs 109.33 last year). There are chances of higher planting this season as farmers got good return last year. Moreover, IMD confirm normal rains in its in its second stage forecast recently. Lower demand for crushing also pressure due to expectation of improving edible oil imports. As per latest SOPA press release, soybean arrivals for the Oct-Apr period pegged at 81 lt, up by 21.8% on year. Until April, country crushed about 62 lt of soybean compared to 55.5 lt last year. USDA in its monthly report forecast output at 109 lt in 2019/20, down 5% compared to last year. Lower crude soybean oil stocks at port may support soybean but lowering of tariff on edible oils and lower soyoil in international market pressurize soybean. As per SEA, soymeal exports are revised higher to 13.58 lt, up 14.3% in 2018/19. SEA revised March 2018 exports figures to 2.15 lt which is highest single month exports in last 26 months.

Outlook

Soybean futures expected to trade sideways to lower in coming days due to lower physical demand by the oil mills. Moreover, higher production and increase edible oil imports will put extra pressure on Oilseeds at higher levels.

Rupee opens higher at 69.15 per dollar

The Indian rupee opened higher by 11 paise at 69.15 per dollar on Tuesday versus previous close 69.26.

On June 3, the domestic currency rose 44 paise to end at 69.26 against the US dollar amid hopes of rate cut by the Reserve Bank in the upcoming meeting and rally in domestic equities.

Rupee appreciated for the second successive session following weakness in the dollar against its major crosses and as global crude oil prices in the past few sessions have remained under pressure, said Motilal Oswal.

After a disappointing GDP number rupee reaction has been limited; data showed the India economy grew at 6.8% compared to estimates of 7%. On the domestic front, market participants will be keeping an eye on the RBI policy statement and expectation is that the central bank could consider cutting rates. Glenmark Pharma wilts 3% on muted Q4 show, CLSA downgrades to sell

Glenmark Pharma shares fell 3 percent intraday on May 31 as global brokerage house CLSA downgraded the stock after March quarter earnings missed analyst estimates.

The stock was quoting at Rs 544.40, down Rs 10.95, or 1.97 percent on the BSE at 11:01 hours. The scrip has wilted 15 percent in the last one month.

CLSA downgraded Glenmark rating to sell from buy and slashed price target by 32 percent to Rs 500 from Rs 740 after cutting FY20-21 EPS estimates by 22-27 percent.

The brokerage said the fourth quarter numbers were below estimates due to a miss on US revenue and Higher R&D/SG&A spends.

"We expect the investment phase to remain high over the next two years. High investment phase will keep earnings outlook subdued and benefits of current investments will only reflect FY22 onwards," it added.

The drug maker's Q4 profit grew by 6.6 percent to Rs 161.6 crore and revenue increased by 12.4 percent to Rs 2,564 crore YoY. Operating profit jumped 11.4 percent year-on-year to Rs 364.13 crore and margin contracted 14 bps to 14.2 percent in quarter ended March 2019.

Numbers were far below analyst estimates. CNBC-TV18 estimated profit at Rs 227.5 crore, revenue at Rs 2,622.8 crore and EBITDA at Rs 450 crore with margin at 17.2 percent for the quarter.

Elara Capital, which has reduced the rating on the stock, said FY19 operating performance remained weak, given lack of meaningful US sales. Despite corporate actions initiated to reduce debt, net debt remains high at 2.2x net debt-EBITDA.

The brokerage house cut its FY20 EPS estimates by 6 percent and FY21 by 4 percent, as a result, it slashed price target to Rs 585 from Rs 605.

Visibility on unlocking value of its innovative R&D pipeline and stake sale in its API business will be key triggers, Elara said.
