Twitter throws hat in the Ring for IPL Digital Rights
Micro-blogging website Twitter has entered the race to win digital rights to the 10th edition of Indian Premier League, reports an established newspaper. This will be another big name among ESPN, Amazon India, Sony Pictures Networks India and others wanting a chance at grabbing the rights. Twitter also streams the US-based National Football League this season on twitter.com, an interface where people can watch the game and Tweet simultaneously.
While digital rights for the event are given for five years by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), TV rights are given for ten years. The TV rights of Sony Pictures will end after the 2017 season.
BCCI will take fresh bids for TV rights soon after with Sony Pictures and Star India being the only expected contenders.
